Making a Letterbox in memory of a lost pet

From: dawninger (dawninger@yahoo.com) | Date: 2006-02-10 16:08:26 UTC
I was wondering if anyone has made a box to remember a pet. Before we
had to euthanize our cat, we took her paw print and made a stamp.
Would making a Letterbox be ok, or would it be considered poor taste?
We didn't have a place to bury her, and I thought if we created a box,
we could visit it in her memory. Thanks for your thoughts,

I think this would be a lovely tribute. I haven't heard of tons of
boxes like this, but there was a dead gerbil gathering a few years
back that is a whole other story.

My main piece of advice though would be to make more than one image of
the stamp. It would be too sad if the box went missing to lose a
keepsake that might be very special for you.

*hehe* Well, I know of one box that 'sort of' fits this description.
It's a box in honor of a gerbil, although the owner of the gerbil
probably doesn't know about the box honoring it. They happened to
stick it right next to a letterbox in a cemetery, and quite a few
people looking for the box were surprised when they found a dead
gerbil instead. So then there was the Dead Gerbil gathering, may he
rest in peace, and a box dedicated in its honor.

I have found a few boxes of this sort-placed in a favorite park, along a
favorite trail, or even in a pet cemetery. What a lovely tribute to our
furry companions!

I second the suggestion to make a couple copies of the stamp, or be sure to
save the image so all is not lost if the box goes missing.

My sincere condolences on the loss of your dog.

I have been to quite a few boxes that were dedicated
to deceased pets. They are not uncommon in CT. I
planted one in memory of a dog I had and planted it in
an area we used to hike. The box is "In Memory of
Brandi" Lebanon CT, New London County. In your case,
the stamp itself is special to you so I would make a
duplicate stamp and place the duplicate in the box.
Hold onto the original....Chuck and Molly

You do whatever feels right to YOU. It's your box. My Dude is 15 now but still going strong. when he does pass, I am retiring our team stamp and planting that, along with his sig stamp, in our favorite park in his honer. Hopefully many more years from now.

Absolutely a great idea!! I sent out a postal letterbox "Sweetie's Surprise" last year in memory of my horse who was 28 years old when she passed away. It is a great way to share your memories with other people. I feel this is a great group of people who are very caring and like to share memories and their life!!

My second plant was a memorial to my dog, which had recently passed. It's near a field he
loved to run in. I'm happy to be able to still share him with people. I say plant away.
